When it comes to skinning, do peeps prefer the x, maximize, minimize and help symbols on the toolbar buttons?

If you mean do people prefer the standard symbols for those buttons, I don't necessarily prefer them. While I often use the common symbols myself, I do like it when people come up with unique "glyphs" to represent those buttons.

It doesn't matter what symbol's are used as long as the position stays the same.

Or, at the very least, the functions are easily recognizable.

I prefer to have the symbols on mouseover if they mess up the look of the normal state. If you only have the 3 basic buttons then the symbols are not necessary.
It's not fun when someone does a skin and includes a shutdown button without a symbol.

Like WOM said,if the positions are the same you could use anything.I almost left the max\restore button off my last skin because its completely un-necessary(double click any titlebar accomplishes that)...but people would gripe and 3 buttons just looks better than 2.

I don't care, I adapt, but I'm sure from what I've seen in comments around whaen someone has been a little creative, that quite a few ask for a subskin with the buttons MicroStuffed way.

Put them where YOU like....and use whatever symbols YOU prefer.

It's YOUR skin......

Don't be a trendwhore to mediocrity.

Thx for the advice

This is probably one of my 'pet peeves' when it comes to using/viewing other's skins...

Three buttons on the right, ad nauseam. Rarely is there anything different...

Jafo's got the right idea here, put them where you prefer...design them as you like 'em.

But dont forget, a little creativity can go a long way...And when you upload something, remember that you are now allowing OTHER people to use it besides yourself...

EventHorizon exits chanting... Min Max Close...Min Max Close...Min Max...

Yeah, do something radical - we need it.

Skinning is about changing the look of Windows. If you come up with a new way of doing things, do it! Buttons don't have to go where Mr gates says they should
